Killarney P-10 State School is well equipped facilities and grounds to maximise the learning space. The Parents and Citizens Association has been instrumental in assisting with making sure our school facilities meet the learning needs of our school community.
The Administration/Primary Wing houses four primary classrooms, learning support and student services room, a designated room for small group tuition, reading room and administration offices. Other buildings for primary classes include a single classroom and a double classroom demountable building.
The Prep classroom provides facilities for learning through an active 'hands on' curriculum and includes a playground within its divided play space. This facility is purpose built to provide an ongoing link between inside and outside learning. To extend the use of the outside environment, an under cover area is provided.
Learning technology is a high priority to support the diverse learning needs of our students. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and/or data projection facilities and access to digital devices. A one-to-one take home laptop program is offered in the Junior Secondary. Networking technologies supports all classrooms to provide access to the school network, eLearning and the internet anywhere and anytime.
The Pathways to Learning Centre is equipped with an audio visual room, and teacher reference/planning room. The large library collection is fully computerised for easy access and borrowing.
The Arts Centre provides an open performance space for the Dramatic Arts as well as a sound proofed Music performance room. A large vinyl area is provided for Visual Arts activities.
The Junior Secondary Wing has a teacher aide preparation room, reading materials compactus, fully equipped modern Science Lab, Computer Lab, Teacher Staffroom, Tuckshop and four classrooms.
The commercial standard Hospitality Centre is complete with a cold room, stainless steel appliances, commercial dishwasher and oven. The facility provides students with access to an excellent facility for hands on learning.
The Design Technology Room is well equipped for Woodwork and Metal Work including an Engineering Trade Training Centre Annex.
Killarney P-10 State School is proud of its extensive grounds. These grounds have been enhanced to provide facilities for outdoor learning as well as an attractive backdrop to all learning. Like its facilities, the grounds are always undergoing enhancements that promote our school as a superb place to work, learn and play.
These facilities include an extensive Multi-Purpose Court catering for Tennis and Basketball; a large covered area (30m x 12m x 6m(H)) providing weather protection for outdoor activities; a small Shade Shelter, with drop-down blinds for the younger children to sit and eat and play out of the weather; two ovals - one for Football/Cricket, and the other for Soccer; three grassed and irrigated Netball Courts; and three Interactive, Shaded Playgrounds, one suitable for Prep-Year 2 students, one suitable for Year Prep-3 students, and the other suitable for Year 4-7 students. Sand pits are dotted around the grounds for student use.
The school is also afforded access to the large Sport and Recreation Facility nearby. This facility is managed by the community and has been used for musicals, awards presentation events. and P&C fundraising events such as the Killarney Border Ranges Trail Bike Ride. A Council swimming pool is within easy walk of the school and is used to support our swimming program run in Terms 1 and 4.
