Facilities

Killarney P-10 State School is well equipped facilities and grounds to maximise the learning space. The Parents and Citizens Association has been instrumental in assisting with making sure our school facilities meet the learning needs of our school community.

The renovated Administration/Primary Wing houses four primary classrooms, learning support and student services room, a withdrawal room for small group tuition, reading room and administration offices. Other buildings for primary classes include a single classroom and a double classroom demountable building.

The Prep classroom provides facilities for learning through an active 'hands on' curriculum and includes a playground within its divided play space. This facility is purpose built to provide an ongoing link between inside and outside learning. To extend the use of the outside environment, an under cover area is provided.

Learning technology is a high priority to support the diverse learning needs of our students. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and/or data projection facilities and access to a pod of computers. The Pathways to Learning Centre has a class set of laptops for classroom use. A one-to-one take home laptop program is offered in the Junior Secondary. Digital cameras, video cameras and microscopes are available to support hands on, real life learning through learning technology. High density wireless networking technologies as well as non-wireless supports all classrooms to provide access to the school network, eLearning and the internet anywhere and anytime.

The Pathways to Learning Centre is equipped with an audio visual room, and teacher reference/planning room. Students also have access to a pod of laptop computers in this location for on line research, projects and accessing the library cataloguing system. The large library collection is fully computerised for easy access and borrowing.

The Arts Centre is a growing addition to our school. It provides an open performance space for the Dramatic Arts as well as a sound proofed Music performance room. A large vinyl area is provided for Visual Arts activities.

The Secondary Wing has a teacher aide preparation room, reading materials compactus, Arts/Textiles Room, fully equipped modern Science Lab, Computer Lab, Teacher Staffroom, Tuckshop and four classrooms.

The Design Technology Room is well equipped for Woodwork and Metal Work. Plans are in place for an Engineering Trade Training Centre Annex to be added to extend our access to metal based industries.

Killarney State School is proud of its extensive grounds. These grounds have been enhanced to provide facilities for outdoor learning as well as an attractive backdrop to all learning. Like its facilities, the grounds are always undergoing enhancements that promote our school as a superb place to work, learn and play.

These facilities include an extensive Multi-Purpose Court catering for Tennis and Basketball; a large covered area (30m x 12m x 6m(H)) providing weather protection for outdoor activities; a small Shade Shelter, with drop-down blinds for the younger children to sit and eat and play out of the weather; two ovals - one for Football/Cricket, and the other for Soccer; three grassed and irrigated Netball Courts; and three Interactive, Shaded Playgrounds, one suitable for Prep-Year 2 students, one suitable for Year Prep-4 students, and the other suitable for Year 4-7 students. Sand pits are dotted around the grounds for student use.

Areas have been set aside for the school's agricultural program, including sheep husbandry and horticultural pursuits.

The school is also afforded access to the large Sport and Recreation Facility near the school. This facility managed by the Rec Club has been used for musicals, speech nights and gymnastics. A Council swimming pool is within easy walk of the school and is used to support the swimming program run in Terms 1 and 4.
